SEATTLE — The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks aren’t resting on their rings. On Saturday, the front office locked in veteran cornerback Noah Igbinoghene on a one-year deal, according to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. The move provides immediate depth to a unit that recently saw Pro Bowler Riq Woolen depart for the Philadelphia Eagles.

From D.C. to the Emerald City

Igbinoghene, a 2020 first-round selection, arrives in Seattle after a rollercoaster two-year stint with the Washington Commanders. In 2024, he looked like a breakout star, logging a career-high 818 defensive snaps. He wasn’t just a body on the field; he was a focal point of Dan Quinn’s defense. However, the 2025 season told a different story. His playing time plummeted from 76% to just 37% of defensive snaps as the Commanders leaned heavily on veteran Jonathan Jones.

Despite the reduced role last year, the stats from his time in Washington show a player capable of holding his own. Across 32 games in the burgundy and gold, Igbinoghene racked up 90 tackles, 17 passes defensed, and his first career sack. Seattle is betting that a change of scenery—and Mike Macdonald’s defensive wizardry—can squeeze that 2024 production out of him once again.

  • 2024 Impact: 10 starts, 818 snaps, 76% defensive participation.
  • 2025 Regression: 2 starts, 373 snaps, 37% defensive participation.
  • Washington Totals: 12 starts, 90 tackles, 17 passes defensed.

“I’m here to work. Seattle has a culture of winning, and you can feel that the moment you walk into the building. My goal is to get back to that 2024 level of consistency and help this team defend the title.”
— Noah Igbinoghene, Seahawks Cornerback

The Secondary Shuffle

The Seahawks’ secondary is undergoing a facelift. With Riq Woolen heading to Philly, the arrival of Igbinoghene offers a veteran insurance policy alongside Devon Witherspoon. Seattle still has roughly $44 million in cap space, meaning this likely isn’t the final move for the defending champs. Meanwhile, Washington continues its own rebuild. After losing both Igbinoghene and Jonathan Jones this weekend, the Commanders have already pivoted, signing former Lions standout Amik Robertson to a two-year, $16 million contract.
