LAS VEGAS — The Maxx Crosby trade is dead. Baltimore pulled the plug on the blockbuster deal late Tuesday evening following a failed physical, sending shockwaves through the league just hours before the 2026 league year officially opened at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. The Ravens walked away from sending their 2026 first-round pick (No. 14 overall) and a 2027 first-rounder to Las Vegas after medical evaluations raised red flags about Crosby’s surgically repaired left knee.
You could almost feel the collective gasp across NFL front offices when the news broke. Crosby played through severe pain for months before the Raiders finally shut him down for the last two games of the 2025 season. He underwent surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus. Baltimore looked at the knee this week and balked. Now, the superstar edge rusher with 69.5 career sacks sits in limbo.
His trade value takes an immediate hit. Las Vegas lost major leverage overnight, completely altering the trade market.
Buffalo desperately needs elite off-the-edge production. Greg Rousseau led the team with a modest eight sacks in 2024 and seven in 2025. The Bills sniffed around the Crosby sweepstakes at the scouting combine but backed away when the bidding war against Baltimore and Dallas got too rich. The Bills hold the No. 26 overall pick, which simply could not compete with Baltimore’s No. 14 spot without adding heavy future draft capital.
Dallas moved on, securing Rashan Gary. Buffalo went a different route, shipping its 2026 second-round pick to Chicago for star wideout D.J. Moore.
Money complicates everything in Orchard Park. Over The Cap puts Buffalo roughly $14.3 million in the red for 2026. General Manager Brandon Beane already restructured Spencer Brown, Ed Oliver, and Tyler Bass. He extended Dawson Knox. Finding room for Crosby’s massive $35.8 million cap hit requires aggressive financial gymnastics. Buffalo must execute massive restructures for Josh Allen and Dion Dawkins just to get compliant, let alone absorb Crosby’s contract.

The Raiders face a ticking clock. Crosby’s $30 million base salary for 2027 becomes fully guaranteed on Friday, March 13. If Las Vegas wants him off the books without absorbing that massive guarantee, they must find a willing partner immediately. The asking price just plummeted.
With Baltimore and Dallas out of the picture, the Bills can negotiate from a place of power. Expect Beane to work the phones relentlessly today. The Bills originally priced themselves out, but medical concerns create discounts. If Buffalo manipulates the cap and lands Crosby, they instantly fix their biggest defensive flaw. The chilly winds of Orchard Park might soon welcome the elite pass rusher they have chased for a decade.
