Maxx Crosby Fails Physical, Ravens Pull Plug on Blockbuster Trade

LAS VEGAS — Maxx Crosby isn’t leaving Sin City just yet. In a staggering Wednesday morning shocker on the dawn of the 2026 new league year, the blockbuster trade sending the star edge rusher to the Baltimore Ravens completely collapsed. Crosby failed his team-administered physical. The Ravens immediately backed out, kept their 2026 and 2027 first-round picks, and left Las Vegas scrambling for answers.

A Botched Physical and a $48 Million Problem

The trade died on the operating table. Crosby underwent meniscus surgery on his left knee in January. That injury shut him down for the final two games of the season and ultimately soured his relationship with the Raiders’ front office. Despite his agent insisting the 28-year-old was ahead of schedule in his rehab, Baltimore’s medical staff saw enough red flags to pull the rip cord.

Now, Las Vegas holds the bag. Just two days ago, during the legal tampering window, the Raiders agreed to a three-year, $48 million contract with former Colts defensive end Kwity Paye. The deal includes $32 million guaranteed.

The Raiders brought in Paye specifically to fill the void Crosby was about to leave. Paye is a reliable run defender who combined for 16.5 sacks over 2023 and 2024. New Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak—fresh off a Super Bowl win as the Seahawks offensive coordinator—was banking on a massive haul of draft capital to kickstart his rebuild. Instead, general manager John Spytek faces a multi-million dollar headache and an overcrowded defensive front.

The desert air feels a little colder this morning at the Intermountain Health Performance Center. Fans went to sleep running mock draft simulators with two extra first-rounders, only to wake up to a broken deal and a frustrated franchise player who still wants out.

“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time.”
    — Las Vegas Raiders, Official Statement

“Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon. Maxx will undoubtedly return as the dominant game wrecker he has been these past 7 seasons.”
    — CJ LaBoy, Crosby’s Agent

    Playoff Implications / What’s Next

The NFL clock strikes 4:00 p.m. ET today, officially opening the 2026 league year. All agreed-upon contracts become binding. Spytek and Kubiak must decide immediately if they will honor the Kwity Paye agreement or attempt an emergency reversal to clear the $16 million annual cap hit.

For Crosby, his trade market just absorbed a devastating blow. Any team picking up the phone today will point straight to the failed physical to drive down the asking price. The Raiders possess nearly $112 million in cap space, so they aren’t broke, but holding onto a disgruntled superstar creates a toxic environment for a rookie head coach trying to establish a culture.

Expect the Raiders to get back on the phones immediately. Watch teams with immense cap space and a glaring need for a pass rush—like the Chicago Bears or Detroit Lions—to swoop in and try to secure Crosby for pennies on the dollar.
