ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills officially promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach on Tuesday, handing the 36-year-old a five-year contract to lead the franchise. Brady, who transformed Buffalo’s attack into the league’s most balanced unit, replaces Sean McDermott after a decade-long tenure that ended following a divisional-round heartbreaker against Denver.

    The Chosen Architect

Buffalo didn’t have to look far to find its future. After interviewing nine candidates—including former Bills OC Brian Daboll and Rams assistant Nate Scheelhaase—General Manager Brandon Beane kept the keys in the building. Brady’s resume in Western New York speaks for itself. Under his guidance in 2025, the Bills offense dominated the league, ranking 1st in rushing yards (159.6) and 1st in time of possession (33:08).

The move provides immediate continuity for Josh Allen. Coming off a 2024 MVP season and another finalist nod in 2025, Allen has flourished under Brady. Since Brady took over play-calling in late 2023, Allen has accounted for 79 offensive touchdowns, the most in the NFL. The bond between the quarterback and coach was a deciding factor for ownership as they looked to maximize Allen’s prime years.

“This is Josh Allen’s offense. My job is to give him the tools to be the best version of himself every Sunday. We’ve built something special here, and now it’s about finishing the job for this city.” — Joe Brady, Buffalo Bills Head Coach

    Super Bowl or Bust

The expectations in Buffalo haven’t changed; they’ve shifted into high gear. While McDermott ended a 17-year playoff drought, the “playoff wall” became a recurring nightmare for the Bills Mafia. By elevating Brady, the organization is betting that a modern, offensive-minded leader can solve the postseason riddle that has plagued them against AFC heavyweights like Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Brady becomes the youngest head coach in the NFL for the 2026 season. His first order of business? Filling out a coaching staff that saw several departures following McDermott’s exit. With a new $2.1 billion stadium on the horizon and Allen entering his ninth season, the window isn’t just open—it’s wide. Brady’s introductory press conference is set for Thursday, January 29, at Highmark Stadium.
