SEATTLE — The Seattle Seahawks are officially heading to Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX. Behind a career-defining 153-yard performance from All-Pro receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and a clutch defensive stand by Devon Witherspoon, Seattle edged the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 on Sunday to clinch the NFC title. The victory marks Seattle’s first trip to the Big Game in 11 years, rewarding a fan base that turned Lumen Field into a literal earthquake zone as the clock hit zero.

The 2023 Draft Class Comes of Age

Three years ago, the Seahawks took a gamble on two first-rounders to “change the program.” On Sunday, that vision became reality. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, now a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year, shredded the Rams’ secondary for 10 catches and one touchdown. His 42-yard grab late in the second quarter set the tone, but his 14-yard scoring strike gave Seattle a 17-13 lead they would fight to protect. Meanwhile, Devon Witherspoon proved why he is the league’s most feared corner. With under five minutes remaining, Witherspoon broke up two consecutive passes in the end zone on third and fourth down, effectively ending the Rams’ final push for the lead.

Quarterback Sam Darnold, the season’s most surprising redemption story, finished with 346 passing yards and three touchdowns. Darnold didn’t just manage the game; he attacked. He trusted his playmakers, specifically leaning on Smith-Njigba when the pocket collapsed. The chemistry between the two has become the heartbeat of Mike Macdonald’s offense, turning a once-rebuilding unit into a scoring machine that has now won nine straight games.

“This is better than any individual award or goal I had in mind. This is the ultimate goal we’ve had since we walked in this building together. We’re not finished yet.” — Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seahawks Wide Receiver

Super Bowl LX Matchup and Beyond

Seattle now prepares to face the New England Patriots on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium. The Patriots secured their spot after defeating the Denver Broncos in a defensive 10-7 struggle. For the Seahawks, the focus remains on health and momentum. While the Rams managed to outgain Seattle in total yardage, the Seahawks’ ability to win the turnover battle—finishing with zero giveaways for the third straight game—remains their greatest strength. If the defense continues to hold firm in the red zone as Witherspoon did on Sunday, Seattle enters the Super Bowl as the clear favorite to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
