Buffalo Bills Interview Former QB Davis Webb for Head Coaching Vacancy

ORCHARD PARK, NY — The Buffalo Bills are moving fast to find their next leader. On Tuesday, the team officially confirmed they completed an interview with Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb for their head coaching position. The move comes just days after the franchise parted ways with Sean McDermott following a disappointing exit in the 2025 AFC Divisional Round.

The Rapid Rise of a Coaching Prodigy

Webb is only 31 years old, but his name has carried weight in coaching circles for years. He spent three seasons in Buffalo from 2019 to 2021 as a backup quarterback, though many in the building viewed him as an extra coach on the roster. After a brief stint with the Giants, he traded his helmet for a clipboard, joining Sean Payton’s staff in Denver. His work with the Broncos’ offense last season turned heads across the league, as he helped orchestrate a top-five passing attack.

The Bills aren’t just looking for a new voice; they are looking for a spark to reignite Josh Allen. During his playing days in Orchard Park, Webb and Allen were inseparable. Webb was credited with helping Allen refine his pre-snap reads during his 2020 breakout season. Bringing Webb back to Western New York would be a clear signal that the front office wants to prioritize the quarterback’s comfort and development above all else.

“Davis is one of the smartest football minds I’ve ever been around. He sees the game three plays ahead of everyone else. Even when he was my backup, I was leaning on him for advice during every series.” — Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills Quarterback

Filling the Void Left by McDermott

Replacing McDermott is no small task. He left Buffalo as one of the winningest coaches in franchise history, but the inability to get past the divisional hurdle forced Terry Pegula’s hand. The search for a successor seems focused on the “young genius” mold. Webb fits the profile perfectly, following the path of other former backups turned coaching stars like Kellen Moore and Kevin O’Connell.

The competition will be stiff. Buffalo has already requested interviews with several high-profile coordinators, but Webb’s intimate knowledge of the “Bills Way” gives him a unique edge. Fans remember the snowy nights at Highmark Stadium where Webb was the first person to greet Allen on the sidelines after a touchdown. That chemistry is something you can’t build overnight.

The Bills’ front office is expected to conduct a second round of interviews next week. If Webb lands the job, he would become the youngest head coach in the modern era of the NFL, surpassing the record set by Sean McVay.
