SEATTLE — The road to the Super Bowl just got steeper for the Seattle Seahawks. Despite a dominant 41-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, the celebration halted Monday morning. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that running back Zach Charbonnet will undergo knee surgery and is officially out for the remainder of the playoffs.

Charbonnet exited Saturday’s blowout win in the second quarter after just five carries for 20 yards. While Kenneth Walker III dazzled with a spectacular 116-yard, three-touchdown performance, Charbonnet’s absence strips the offense of its physical closer. The third-year back has been the reliable sledgehammer in short-yardage situations all season, a critical role against a punishing defensive front like the Los Angeles Rams, who come to Lumen Field for the NFC Championship this Sunday.

“The bummer is Charbs. He’s got a significant knee injury, unfortunately. Breaks your heart. He’s going to need surgery. He’s going to have a long road back.” — Mike Macdonald, Seahawks Head Coach

With Charbonnet sidelined, the burden falls squarely on Kenneth Walker III to carry the load. The Rams’ defensive front is no joke, and without Charbonnet to soften them up between the tackles, Seattle may need to lean on practice squad call-ups or get creative with receiver Deebo Samuel-style packages for depth. Sunday’s NFC Championship game will test whether Seattle’s run game can remain lethal without its one-two punch.
