Ravens Kill Crosby Trade, Chiefs Snag Walker: The Reality of 2026 Free Agency

    • LAS VEGAS — The chill of the early offseason wind could not cool down the scorching hot phones in front offices this week. The 2026 NFL free agency period kicked off with wild rumors, but the reality hitting executives today is far more shocking. Fans expected a seamless Maxx Crosby blockbuster. They got a collapsed deal instead. Analysts predicted the Philadelphia Eagles would shop A.J. Brown. General Manager Howie Roseman slammed the door shut on that idea. And while Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III tested the open waters, the Kansas City Chiefs swooped in to secure him.

    The Crosby Blockbuster Crumbles

Early reports suggested the Baltimore Ravens secured Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby for two first-round picks. That deal is dead. Baltimore backed out after discovering a degenerative knee issue during Crosby’s physical. You could almost feel the tension in the Raiders’ facility when the news broke that the face of their defense was returning under a cloud of medical doubt. Instead of anchoring a new-look Ravens defense, Crosby stays in Vegas, leaving Baltimore to pivot to Trey Hendrickson on a three-year deal. The Raiders keep their star, but the fallout from this failed physical will affect the entire AFC.

Walker Cashes In, Pierce Gets Paid

Kenneth Walker III carried the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. He battered the defense with 135 rushing yards on 27 carries. When Seattle passed on the franchise tag, the market ignited. The Kansas City Chiefs just signed him, adding a brutal ground element to an already lethal offense. Walker’s arrival at Arrowhead Stadium caps off a miraculous journey for a player once told by doctors he would never play again due to blood clots as a teenager. He defied the odds, won a ring, and secured his future.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts refused to let outside bidders poach their talent. They locked down receiver Alec Pierce with a massive four-year, $116 million contract, rewarding his explosive development.

“A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles. From my perspective, anything you ask me about A.J. Brown, I’m going to go right back to that answer.”— Howie Roseman, Philadelphia Eagles General Manager

    Playoff Implications / What’s Next

The Eagles keeping Brown ensures Jalen Hurts retains his elite receiving corps. Philadelphia sidesteps a brutal $43 million dead cap hit and keeps their championship window wide open. For the Ravens, whiffing on Crosby forced an emergency pivot, drastically altering their draft strategy. The Chiefs, however, just put the entire league on notice. Placing the reigning Super Bowl MVP behind Patrick Mahomes forces defensive coordinators to rethink their entire scheme. Expect rival teams to aggressively target run-stopping defensive tackles early in the upcoming NFL Draft to counter Kansas City’s new juggernaut.
