Adam Schefter: Commanders Poised to Steal Jeremiyah Love at No. 7

WASHINGTON — The draft board just rattled. With exactly one month left until Roger Goodell takes the podium, the Jeremiyah Love NFL Draft speculation just took a wild turn. ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped a massive prediction on The Pat McAfee Show regarding the Notre Dame star. Forget the Tennessee Titans at No. 4. Ignore the New York Giants at No. 5. Schefter projects Love will slide directly into the lap of the Washington Commanders at the seventh overall pick.

Skipping New York: The Skattebo Effect

You can almost feel the tension shift in the NFC East. Fans expected the Giants to sprint to the podium for a home-run hitter like Love. Instead, New York looks ready to pass, and the reason wears number 20. Cam Skattebo flashed serious power during his 2025 rookie campaign before a dislocated ankle sidelined him. In just eight games, the former fourth-round pick racked up 410 rushing yards, 207 receiving yards, and seven total touchdowns.

New York brass clearly believes a healthy Skattebo locks down their backfield for the foreseeable future. That front-office confidence opens a massive door for Washington to strike.

“Today, as we sit here today, my guess would be I don’t see him going to Tennessee. I don’t see him going to the Giants at number five. Although that would be an interesting spot and I think he’d have a lot of support there. To me a place that makes sense, today, a month out would be the Washington Commanders. They’ve added to their running back room. I could see Washington being interested in a player like Jeremiyah Love. Seven would be the spot.”

    Playoff Implications / What’s Next

Washington aggressively attacked free agency by signing Rachaad White, but you do not ignore a generational talent when he falls into your lap. Love finished his storied Notre Dame career with a staggering 2,882 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns. He doesn’t just run the ball; he shatters pursuit angles. He caught everything thrown his way out of the backfield, adding another 594 receiving yards and six scores while dragging defenses to the National Championship game last season.

If Washington pairs Love’s track-star speed with Jayden Daniels under center, the Commanders instantly transform into an offensive juggernaut. Defensive coordinators will lose sleep trying to scheme against that dual-threat backfield. The 2026 draft kicks off in late April, but the mind games are officially underway.
