BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Ravens just reset the AFC North. Before the new NFL league year officially opens on Wednesday, Baltimore agreed to send 2026 and 2027 first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders in a massive Maxx Crosby trade. After generating just 30 sacks in 2025, the Ravens front office refused to sit idle.
Minter Gets His Monster
New head coach Jesse Minter needed an enforcer for his defense. The pass rush struggled heavily last season, lacking a reliable edge threat to close out tight games. Crosby brings instant chaos. He arrives as a highly durable, elite closer who constantly wrecks opposing game plans. You could practically feel the ground shake in Baltimore the moment the news dropped. Giving up two top-tier draft picks breaks the Ravens’ traditional draft-and-develop mold, but Minter clearly wants to win right now.
However, paying for elite talent forces tough financial choices. Enter Rashod Bateman. Sources indicate the former first-round pick is now available on the trade market. Bateman signed a three-year, $36.75 million extension last year with $20 million guaranteed. After a breakout 2024 season where he posted 45 receptions for 756 yards and nine touchdowns, his production plummeted. Last year, Bateman caught just 19 passes for 224 yards across 13 games.
Meanwhile, Zay Flowers officially took the reins. The dynamic receiver carried the passing attack in 2025, recording a massive 86 receptions for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns. With Flowers securing the WR1 spot, Bateman’s heavy contract no longer fits the offensive vision.
“I’ve said it a million times. I’m excited to watch Rashod this year. I think his best football is ahead of him. It’s something he wanted. It’s something we wanted. He’s got a very bright future.”

Playoff Implications / What’s Next
Adding Crosby instantly elevates the Ravens’ defense back to elite status, giving them the raw firepower required to hunt down quarterbacks like Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes in January. For Bateman, a change of scenery feels imminent. Baltimore needs the cap flexibility to absorb Crosby’s contract, and several receiver-needy teams desperately want an outside threat who can stretch the field. Expect a Day 2 or Day 3 draft pick in return if a deal materializes before the 2026 draft kicks off.
